The last day spent in Medellin was spent outside of Medellin in a city called Guatape. I booked this through Medellin Day Trips. They came and picked us up at the Airbnb and we rode privately to the small city.
The tour was pleasant but it was an extremely long trip that was made even longer due to holiday traffic. Apparently, on Easter, people travel a lot to this town and this delayed our trip dramatically. Although it was a long ride, we were provided times to stop and take pictures and were provided with a lot of information abut the history of Colombia. From the coffee, to the trees, the country’s violent past to different Colombian delicacies.
Our first stop was a fruit stand where we got to taste a lot of weird fruits that I would have never tried but was pleasantly surprised by. Not going to lie some of it was gross. I did purchase Lulos but the Feds in Customs took them from me. * I’m writing a formal complaint soon.
The second store was a replica city of a town called Penol which seemed like a waste of time because it wasn’t a city but a literal replica. The buildings were all filled with gift shops except for a church.
After a bunch of traffic, we decided to skip the large rock in Guatape and went straight to lunch. I wasn’t feeling well and realized I would not be able to climb that rock so I’m saving that for later on in life if I decide to go back.
We walked around the small city and learned a bit of history and left. My favorite part was this cute little girl who came over excited to say hello.
On the way back, we saw the line on the steps of the rock and realized we were positive that we were not going to do it. Those people could not even move to climb the steps. They were just standing
1 n place like statues.
Although I enjoyed the tour,on the drive back to Medellin the driver got too comfortable and kept saying nigga. Now he was curious about it, I guess. His questions were seemingly innocent but it was off putting to say the least. And he kept saying it. The American culture and that word is complex. I honestly think that’s just universal knowledge so I don’t know but it was random that it was on his mind.
